Students to give wheat farmers helping hand

Campaign will help students to get first-hand knowledge of problems farmers facing

The University of Agriculture Faisalabad in collaboration with the Punjab Agriculture Extension Department is launching an eight-day wheat campaign from November 7 to November 14 in which 330,000 students will visit farmers’ fields in six divisions of the province.

It is meant to disseminate experts’ recommendations to increase productivity per acre.

UAF Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan stated this while chairing a meeting of the deans’ committee.

Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Agriculture Faculty, Prof. Dr. Sarwar Khan, was the convener of the meeting while the Principal Officer of Public Relations and Publications of UAF, Prof. Dr. Jalal Arif was the coordinator of the campaign.

Prof. Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that the campaign would also help the students get first-hand knowledge of the problems the farming community faced.

He said that the students would persuade the farmers during the campaign about timely sowing, use of certified seeds and balanced application of fertilisers. The divisions the campaign will cover are Lahore, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Gujrat and Gujranwala.
