Lawmakers, academicians, and intellectuals Wednesday called for a thorough examination of India's involvement in state terrorism, drugs, and weapons trade ahead of the Financial Action Task Force's evaluation of India in November.
They highlighted the nexus between Indian politicians and organised crime rings.
The seminar titled "Unveiling the Future - FATF's Impact on South Asia 2023," was organised by Quaid-e-Azam University.
The event, part of "Universities Outreach - Phase 1," featured prominent speakers who discussed various challenges and implications associated with India's connections to the drug trade, illegal weapons, and FATF's inquiries into black money.
The speakers cited examples of Indian-sponsored state terrorism through individuals like Kulbhushan Jadhav in Pakistan and the murder of Canadian Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. They unanimously urged the FATF to address India's involvement in these crimes to preserve regional peace.
Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance Dr Waqar Masood highlighted India's involvement in significant financial irregularities, criminal activities, and its support for cross-border terrorism.
He pointed out that Pakistan had met all 27 conditions set by the FATF, whereas India had yet to respond to 330 queries from the international financial watchdog.
