Officers oppose recruitment policy: CAA

KARACHI: Director General Civil Aviation Authority Air Commodore (Retd) Junaid Amin has said some officers in the CAA want to maintain the status quo and are sabotaging efforts to introduce a new recruitment and promotion policy.

Talking to The Express Tribune on Monday, he said the present administration of the CAA is taking all decisions in the best interest of the authority.

On the other hand, contrary to what the CAA DG said, civil aviation officers have been continuously protesting against the new promotion policy and steps taken by the administration.

The Civil Aviation Authority Officers Association of Pakistan (CAOP) said the administration has mala fide intentions and only handpicked officers will benefit from the new promotion policy.

When asked what the CAA is doing for the resolution of the conflict, CAA DG Junaid Amin replied, “we are taking all measures to end the standoff but some officers are manipulating the situation for self-interest”.

“We don’t want to see protests at airports, we know it is not good for the country’s image but these officers are not taking it seriously,” he said.

“I am on contract and will leave when it ends. These officers are permanent stakeholders and I think they should have shown some responsibility,” he said.

“We want to bring about a change as it is necessary for the organisation and for this we want to transfer some officers. Change is needed and this is what we are doing at present,” he added.

President of the Association Ghulam Mustafa Mirani said it is not some officers who are protesting against the new policies.

“All the CAA officers are onboard. All want the administration to change its mind regarding policies.”

The COAP has announced staging a peaceful protest on Tuesday for one hour from 12 noon to 1 pm at all airports of the country.

Mirani said the COAP has no personal grudge against the DG, “we have problems with the new unfair promotion policy.

“All officers support our demands. We don’t want unrest at the airports but the DG has perhaps made his mind to prolong the present standoff,” he added.

The officers said the administration has also started victimising those who lead the campaign, adding transfer orders are being issued.

The COAP expressed dissatisfaction with the transfer of two CAA officials from Karachi to Peshawar and from Karachi to Nawabshah when they raised their voice during the present dispute.

The CAA administration and officers have been at loggerheads over the new promotion and recruitment policy approved a week ago by the administration.
