I never kept grudges and prioritised my mental health: Reema Khan
Following her successful debut in 1990 with Javed Fazil's Bulandi, Reema Khan emerged as one of the leading actors in Lollywood throughout the 1990s. The former dancer sat down for a candid discussion in comedy show, Mazaaq Raat, with host and actor Imran Ashraf.
While scandals are commonplace in entertainment industry, Ashraf pointed out Reema’s surprising lack of controversy as a celebrity figure throughout her career. In response, the Nikah star offered, “I always focused on my work. I never felt jealous of my fellow actors or held any grudges against anyone.”
She further commented on her professional relationships in showbiz, stating, “I encouraged my colleagues and admired their work. Watching actors junior to me never instilled a sense of pride in me.”
“I worked hard day and night to become a successful actor. It was my fortune that my first film was a blockbuster, its popularity with fans turned me into a star overnight,” Reema added, referring to Bulandi’s positive reception among people.
Recipient of the Pride of Performance Award in 2019, Reema’s long career evolved across various entertainment fields from stage acting to hosting her own television talk show, Reema Show. The actor disclosed her honest attitude toward work, saying, “I never took my defeats to heart or internalised them to the point of despair. Similarly, I never made fame and success my obsession.”
“I just worked hard and became a star,” she furthered, insisting that this clarity was instrumental in establishing her success in the field and in personal life. “After film world, I continued to play many roles in my real life. First I was a daughter, then I became a wife, then a mother - the film of life will keep going.”
Asked about her beauty, Reema revealed her positive outlook on life that involves centring her mental health. “I love myself very much. I also take good care of my mental and physical health, this is the secret to my beauty as well.”
In recognition of her exceptional talent and dedication, the actor boasts a long list of accolades including the prestigious Nigar Award, Lux Style Award and the America Abroad Media Award in the United States. In November 2011, she tied the knot with S. Tariq Shahab, a Pakistani-American cardiologist. Their union was blessed with a son, Azlan, on the 24th of March, 2015.
