BAHAWALPUR:

The authorities concerned have given the green light for extensive upgrading of the Sherbagh, as announced in a meeting chaired by the Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman.

A consultant has been enlisted for the upgradation and cleaning of Sherbagh, with a budget of Rs20 million allocated for repairs, maintenance and civil works. The consultant firm is set to commence operations shortly.

The participants of the meeting stressed the need to reintroduce elephants, giraffes and other animals to the zoo, with the responsibility of acquiring them entrusted to the forest department.

They highlighted the necessity of providing additional pairs of monkeys, introducing camels for children to ride and bringing more birds to the zoo.

A water treatment plant is in the plans to ensure clean water for the animals, and efforts will be made to revive the fish aquarium, which has been closed for a long period. To enhance the zoo's attractiveness, the meeting suggested the allocation of an additional budget of Rs150 million. The matter will be presented to the chief minister for consideration.

The participants also decided to auction surplus animals at market rates, replacing them with new additions.

They called for arrangements to facilitate daily visits by students from schools and colleges.
