KARACHI:

The Sindh Directorate of Private Schools, on the directives of caretaker chief minister, has sought reports within four days from all the private schools in the province including Karachi regarding implementation of the law to provide free education to the deserving students ensuring 10 per cent quota in the total number of enrolled students.

According to the Additional Director of Sindh Directorate of Private Schools, Rafia Mallah, a circular in this regard has been issued to all private schools giving them four days to reply.

As per the "The Sindh Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2013" approved by the Sindh Assembly, all private schools are obliged to reserve 10 per cent of the total seats for deserving students to provide them free education. All the regional directors of Sindh have also been instructed to ensure implementation of the law in their respective regions and submit report.

The circular says, if the report is not submitted, action will be taken against the schools under the Registration Act which may lead to cancellation or no further renewal of the registration.

Moreover, the director general of private institutions has formed five committees giving them a task to visit the schools on a daily basis and check the records of the freeships and scholarships provided to the students. In case any school is found violating the rules then the committee will send its recommendation for further action against the school.
