ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has sought replies from the federation and the Ministry of Education on a petition pertaining to the implementation of the law to allocate a 10 per cent quota for destitute children in private schools.

Advocate Hafiz Saadullah filed a petition through Shehbaz Shah for implementation of the free education law.

In a two-page written order, IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq put to notice the federation and the Ministry of Education, seeking their replies.

The order states that a petition was filed for the implementation of the Free and Compulsory Education Act 2012. The petitioner argued that the decision has not been implemented despite the issuance of the notification in 2015. The pre-school education is not being provided in government schools according to section 9 of the said act.

The court said according to the petitioner, private schools have not kept a 10 per cent quota for the destitute persons in the admission as per section 10.

The court issued notices to the parties after hearing the initial arguments of the petitioner’s counsel.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing while directing the respondents to submit their replies within 14 days. The next date of hearing has been set for October 11.
