Actors Anushka Sharma and Athiya Shetty took yesterday’s much-awaited cricket match between the Indian and Pakistani teams as the perfect opportunity to publicly support and praise their husbands Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, respectively, for their incredible performance.
After an unexpected delay due to unfavorable weather conditions, the clash between India and Pakistan on the battleground of R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka resumed in the evening with India batting first. The fate of the match was pretty much decided when the partnership between expert batsmen Kohli and Rahul took off. The duo amassed a total of 233 runs and scored individual centuries, resulting in a stellar innings that was predictably and decidedly difficult to beat. Both players remained not-out till the conclusion of the 50 overs.
While Anushka is now old to the game of cheerleading for her world-renowned cricketer husband, Athiya is still relatively new to it. The Sultan actor took to her Instagram Story to post a picture of Kohli as he celebrated the completion of his century, writing “Super knock, super guy!” followed by a clapping and read-heart emoji.
Athiya expressed her support and love for Rahul’s brilliant batting by making a carousel post and sharing it on her Instagram profile. The carousel consisted of a picture of Rahul as he raised his bat to the sky in celebration and basked in the audience’s cheers upon hitting the 100-runs mark. Along with the picture, she also posted a short video of Rahul as he sprinted for the last two runs left to complete his century. The final picture in the two-swipe carousel was a screenshot of the score ticker at the bottom of the screen, showing the player’s final score as 111 runs from 106 balls. The Motichoor Chaknachoor star captioned the post: “Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise…You are everything. I love you. #1”.
On her Instagram Story, the Hero actor also shared a post showing Kohli and Rahul in full gear and facing each other head-on, mid-match, declaring them “Champions” for their brilliant partnership, which resulted in a massive 228-run win for the Indian national cricket team against a formidable opponent like the Pakistani national cricket team.
Anushka and Kohli tied the knot in December 2017 and the Jab Harry Met Sejal star has since attended and supported her world-famous athlete husband at many cricket tournaments and matches. The couple share a daughter named Vamika.
Athiya and Rahul got married in January of this year and the Mubarakan star has already adopted herself well into the role of talented-actor-cum-cheerleader-wife.
