KARACHI:

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer, Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, has called on the caretaker government to take decisive action against power hook, water tanker, and other mafias operating in the city.

He also demanded the arrest of those responsible for the murder of Muhammad Habib, a JI councillor from the Surjani Town area.

Naeem made these demands during a press conference held at the JI headquarter on Sunday. He emphasised that the kunda mafia could not thrive in the city without the support and patronage of K-Electric.

He alleged that Muhammad Habib was killed by the power hook mafia due to his efforts to end the hook system, a move supported by local residents.

JI Karachi Ameer called on the interim government to revoke K-Electric's licence, rather than backing these white-collar criminals.

Furthermore, he criticised the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for scheduling a hearing to consider allowing the K-Electric to impose an additional Rs10 per unit charge. On the same occasion, he also addressed issues in the transportation sector, law and order, and other concerns plaguing the mega city.
