Over 40,000 appear for MDCAT in Sindh

Three cases in Dow University, two in Hyderabad and one in Larkana were caught cheating

KARACHI:

Over 40,000 students competed for 1,700 seats of the medical and dental colleges across Sindh in a bid to enter the medical profession.

Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) test was conducted across Sindh under the supervision of Jinnah Sindh Medical University on Sunday.

In total, more than 40,000 candidates participated for admission to 1700 open merit seats. After the examination, the answer sheets were sealed and secured which will now be opened on Monday under the supervision of the appointed officers of the university. The exam results will be declared after one week. However, the “KEY” of the questions will be uploaded by tonight.

At least 10,000 candidates appeared for the test at the examination centre established at the University of Karachi. The number of female candidates was more than 7,000 while the number of male candidates was around 2,800.

Another 5,000 candidates, including 3,700 women and 1,400 men sat the MDCAT at Dow University Ojha Campus.

Meanwhile in Hyderabad, 1,3000 candidates, including 7,000 females and 6,000 males, appeared for the test at Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences.

In the examination centre established in Bilawal Sports Complex Shaheed Benazirabad Nawabshah, the number of female candidates was more than 2,000 while the number of male candidates was more than 1,500.

More than 4,000 female candidates participated in examination centre established in Larkana Police Training School, while the number of male candidates remained close to 4,000.

JSMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Amjad Siraj Memon supervised examination affairs in University of Karachi, while Registrar Dr. Azam Khan supervised the examination affairs in Dow University.

Help desks, medical camps and lost and found counters were also set up at examination centers for convenience of the candidates. Water bottles, biscuits, juice and candies were also provided to candidates during examination.

Three cases in Dow University, two in Hyderabad and one in Larkana were caught cheating and their papers were immediately cancelled and they were thrown out of examination center premises.

Meanwhile, Daily Express correspondent in Nawabshah reported that entry test was conducted for admission in Nawab Shah Medical and Dental Colleges. The media was stopped for coverage of the entry test. Children of influential personalities were given the facility to sit in special rooms and give tests.
