Cop killed in gun battle with robbers

Firefight ensued after bandits were intercepted

A gunfight was reported between police and suspected robbers near Indus Highway Pir Adil Bridge Basira on Thursday. As a result, one policeman was killed while another was injured.

The casualties were shifted to hospital, while the accused managed to escape the scene. A search operation was launched.

Police and suspected bandits came face to face during a patrol at Basira Bridge in the Pir Adil area and a fierce exchange of fire ensued. During the gun battle, Constables Ghulam Hasan and Munir Hussain were seriously injured.

They were immediately rushed to the trauma center at Allama Iqbal Teaching Hospital, where Constable Ghulam Hasan succumbed to his wounds while undergoing treatment. Constable Munir Hussain is under treatment at the hospital. Backup was called to the scene and a search operation was launched to arrest the accused, who escaped from the site.

Later, funeral prayers were offered for Constable Ghulam Hasan at Police Lines Dera Ghazi Khan. RPO DG Khan Captain (retd) Sajjad Hasan Khan, District Officer Dera Ghazi Khan Hasan Afzal, circle officers, other police officers and a large number of citizens and the martyr’s relatives participated in the funeral prayer.

The RPO also reached DG Khan Teaching Hospital to visit Constable Munir Ahmed. District Police Officer Dera Ghazi Khan Hasan Afzal was also present on this occasion. The RPO inquired about the treatment provided to the injured officer and directed to provide the best medical facilities.

In September 2021, two police constables were killed during an encounter with suspected robbers in Lahore.

It was the third incident in less than a month in which cops lost their lives.

On August 7 (2021), a police constable was killed in an encounter with suspected robbers in Hanjarwal. A week after the Hanjarwal encounter, another police constable was gunned down in Data Darbar.

In the recent incident, a call was made to police emergency helpline 15 that the unidentified suspects had committed a robbery near a graveyard in Manga Mandi area.

They were riding a bike.

Constables of Muhafiz Squad, Adil Hussain and Abad Ali deputed at Talaab Srai were alerted about the suspects reaching near them.

They tried to intercept the suspected criminals who opened fire on cops.

Constable Abad Ali suffered a bullet injury on his chest and died on the spot.
