KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued an order to modify the title of MQM-Pakistan’s petition concerning the empowerment of local bodies.

The court observed that since the primary petitioner and MQM Pakistan leader Kanwar Naveed Jamil had passed away, the petition may be retitled.

Justice Irfan Saadat Khan noted the presence of the caretaker setup and the passing of petitioner Kanwar Naveed Jameel, suggesting the appointment of an attorney in his place for further proceedings. The court adjourned the hearing, instructing Tariq Mansoor Advocate to revise the petition’s title.

In the petitions, it was argued that 49 amendments are necessary to empower local bodies. Letters have also been sent to the President of Pakistan and the Prime Minister regarding these amendments. The goal is to align with the Supreme Court’s decision and transfer powers to the grassroots.
