Chinese team eyes bovine FMD-free zone

UVAS collaborates with Chinese Disease Surveillance Programme team

LAHORE:

Chinese researchers have collected more than 350 buffalo serum and whole blood samples from Sheikhupura and conducted their diagnostic tests in the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) laboratories.

Institute of Microbiology Director Prof Aftab Anjum said during a meeting with a Chinese Disease Surveillance Programme collaborators’ team that the samples had been collected in collaboration with the livestock department and local farmers.

Project Manager Yu Xinzhe from the China Agriculture University said the collaboration was aimed at establishing a foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) free zone and transferring technology of vaccine production.

She also expressed interest in conducting training to boost buffalo production in Pakistan.
