8 shipments of rock salt sent to China via land

Approximately 35 tonnes of rock salt sent between June and July this year through the Khunjerab land border

BEIJING:

Pakistan has successfully completed eight shipments, totalling approximately 35 tonnes of rock salt, to China between June and July this year, utilising the Khunjerab land border. With imports and exports reaching a yearly volume of 40 to 80 thousand tonnes, the Khunjerab Port remains a bustling hub of trade, handling a daily average of 471.6 tonnes, according to Zhang Xiaobo, China’s Customs Director of Khunjerab Port.

“In addition to rock salt, there are also copper and wooden handicrafts, as well as some carpets,” Zhang stated, indicating the diverse range of goods flowing through the border. He mentioned that each trader benefits from a tax-free trade quota, amounting to approximately $1100 per day, contributing to the increasing ease of trade. This newfound convenience is alluring to Pakistani exporters who previously relied on longer sea routes to reach China.
