Indian minister 'hack' to look like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan goes viral

The controversial statement has been criticised by other politicians

Bollywood actor and supermodel Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has often been celebrated as "one of the most beautiful women in the world” by multiple media outlets. While the superstar has undoubtedly received great press in the beauty circuit, it is this belief that recently led an Indian minister to suggest questionable methods for the public to adopt in order to achieve her look. 

It is assumed that the Minister of Tribal Welfare in India, Vijaykumar Gavit lauds the actor’s looks, given that he has gone viral for a public statement he made suggesting that eating fish will help others achieve Aishwarya’s effortless beauty. 

According to News18, he is reported to have said, “People who consume fish on a daily basis develop smooth skin and their eyes sparkle…Did I tell you about Aishwarya Rai? She lived near the seashore in Mangaluru. She would consume fish daily. Have you seen her eyes? You will also have eyes like hers. The fish contain some oils, it makes your skin smooth.”

The clip of Gavit’s statement quickly gained traction on online forums, resulting in many reactions from other political figures regarding the controversial proclamation. Sanjay Shirsat from the Shiv Sena party brought to light that the minister should not be making such remarks, given the risk of how seriously it may be taken due to his stature. Anmol Mitkari of the National Congress Party also urged the lawmaker to concentrate on critical issues like malnutrition in tribal areas.

Other politicians, however, saw the humour in the comment. Nitesh Rane of the Bharatiya Janata Party amusingly remarked that he had been consuming fish for ages but had seen no such results: “I eat fish daily. My eyes should have become like that [of Aishwarya's].”

Aishwarya holds the position as perhaps one of the most popular and influential celebrities in the world. Initially starting off in the beauty world with modelling jobs and pageantry, the superstar rose to fame after winning the Miss World pageant in 1994.
