MITHI:

Tharparkar is a beautiful tourist destination of the province, said Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Zahida Parveen Jamro, the first woman officer of Sindh Police posted in the district.

“Crime rate is negligible in Tharparkar, it is a completely peaceful district,” SSP Zahida, who had earlier worked as SP Saddar in Karachi, said talking to a delegation of journalists on tour of Tharparkar district.

Compared to downtown Karachi, the quaint desert district was a heavenly place.

She said that although poverty rate was high in Thar, many employment opportunities have been created here due to Thar Coal and other projects. The SSP said the destiny of this region, known for extreme poverty, can be changed if attention is given to the areas of farming, livestock, and tourism.

She called the sand-swept Tharparkar district a heavenly place. “The desert is rich in natural wealth as well as cultural diversity. This district is completely peaceful…the crime rate here is negligible,” the SSP said.

The police of the district is working effectively to maintain peace in the area. She said that the Sindh government is paying special attention to the development of Thar. This is the reason that thousands of tourists have arrived in Thar from all over the country during the current monsoon season.

Roads have been built under CPEC and offer a safe and smooth ride through the desert, she said.

SSP Zahida Parveen said that education and health facilities are improving in Thar. The development of health sector is one of the top priorities of the government.

She highlighted the passion of the people of Thar for education. “Boys and girls who studied at village schools in Thar are serving in various government departments and professional fields,” she said.

The officer commended the people of Tharparkar as hardworking and hospitable. There is a large number of minorities living here. People of all religions live together here. She requested the media to inform the world about the best and good conditions of Thar so that Thar can get investments and employment opportunities.
