QUETTA:

Ali Mardan Domki was sworn in as the caretaker Balochistan chief minister during a ceremony held at the Governor House on Friday evening.

Balochistan Governor Malik Abdul Wali Kakar administered the oath to the newly appointed interim chief minister of the province.

The caretaker ministers are expected to be nominated within the next couple of days.

Domki was sworn in after the opposition and government's parliamentary committees developed a consensus on his name, nominating him for the interim provincial chief minister’s slot.

However, former Balochistan chief minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo had refused to sign the nomination summary of Domki.

During the oath-taking ceremony, prominent among those who were present were federal Interior Minister Senator Sarfraz Bugti, former CM Jam Kamal Khan, Balochistan Assembly Speaker Jan Muhammad Jamali, former provincial ministers and members of the provincial assembly.

Talking to reporters after the ceremony, Jam Kamal, who played a key role in the nomination of Domki, termed the event ‘historic for the province’.

He said all opposition and treasury members endorsed Domki as the interim chief minister.
When asked about the formation of the provincial cabinet, he said that very soon all stakeholders would be taken on board and the caretaker cabinet would be formed.

"This is good for the continuity of my stalled development projects," Jam Kamal said, referring to the uplift schemes he started for the benefit of the people of the province during his term as the chief minister.

The former Balochistan CM also hailed the appointment of Anwaarul Haq Kakar as the caretaker prime minister, terming it a good omen for the country as well as the nation.

"None, except a few people opposed the appointment of the caretaker prime minister," the former CM mentioned.

He was optimistic about the leadership qualities of the prime minister, saying that Kakar would play a key role for the development and prosperity of the country as well as Balochistan.

Reportedly, Domki belongs to the Lehri area of Balochistan. He is the son of politician Mir Hazor Bakhsh Domki, who served as a senator between 1975 and 1977. Domki did his Masters in Sociology from Allama Iqbal University, Islamabad and has served as tehsil nazim Lehri and district nazim Sibi.

Domki was born on Oct 13, 1972. His brother, Dostin Domki, has served as a member of the Balochistan Assembly and minister of state.
