KARACHI:

Traders have taken a strong exception to traffic police towing away cars and motorcycles from the lanes of motorcycle market on Akber Road.

“Police pick up the cars of vendors and dealers from the streets adjacent to Akbar Road Motorcycle Market in the name of no parking. Due to which there is severe agitation among the shopkeepers of Akbar Road,” said Motorcycle Assemblers Association Chairman Sabir Sheikh.

Cars have been parked in the inner streets of the market for the last 30 years and do not disturb the flow of traffic due to being away from the main road.

However, Preedy traffic section officials have made it a routine to pick up vehicles parked in inner streets.

Sabir Sheikh has said that they never had any objection to the vehicles parked on the main road being lifted and the traders always cooperated with the traffic police. But now the traders are being unnecessarily harassed by lifting the vehicles from the inner streets.
