ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has strongly condemned the complaint/reference filed by the so-called Civil Society of Pakistan against Supreme Court’s Justice Sardar Tariq Masood before the Supreme Judicial Council, seeking an inquiry into alleged financial misconduct and sought disciplinary action against him.

According to a statement issued the PBC on Tuesday, Executive Committee Chairman Hassan Raza Pasha and Vice-Chairman Haroonur Rashid said, “Justice Sardar Masood, is very competent, upright, and an independent judge and his integrity is above any doubt and has great respect amongst the legal fraternity and public.”

They said it seems that the instant complaint/reference has been filed with mala fide intention in consequence of the matter as the chief justice of Pakistan already referred the earlier reference filed against Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi to “his Lordship (Justice Masood) for preliminary inquiry, which is pending before him and it is the tactic being used to put pressure on him and to suppress his Lordship”.

They said that the PBC always supported and struggled for the supremacy of the Constitution, rule of law, and independence of judiciary, as enshrined in the Constitution.

The Pakistan Bar Council and the legal fraternity always strived to achieve the aforementioned objectives and will continue to do so and it will never permit anyone to succeed in their nefarious designs and motives to target the honourable independent judge through filing of such like reference.

They urged that the reference should be immediately withdrawn, otherwise, the legal fraternity will strongly oppose it at every level.
