Sajal Aly took to her Instagram Stories on August 13 to wish her on-screen mother Sridevi a happy birthday on what would have been the 60th birthday of the late actor.

The Story featured a close-up image of Sridevi looking beautiful in a yellow sari with a matching bindi adorning her forehead. The image was from the music video of the famous song Mitwa from Sridevi’s film Chandni, which she starred in opposite Rishi Kapoor. Accompanying the picture, she wrote, “Happy birthday to you! I miss you”.

Sajal chose to have the song, which was famously sung by legendary musician Lata Mangeshkar, play in the background. The post was a tribute to the yesteryear Bollywood superstar and her legacy as an actor and performer. The film Chandni was a box-office hit and the song Mitwa is still, to this day, recognized by its famous lyrics ‘Tere mere honthon pe, meethe meethe geet mitwa, aagay aagay chalay hum, peeche peeche preet mitwa’.

Sajal and Sridevi grew a close bond on the set of their film Mom, in which Sridevi played the role of Sajal’s stepmother who sets out on a quest for revenge after her stepdaughter is raped by a group of men.

On the day of her birthday, Big-Tech company and global search engine Google also paid homage to Sridevi by featuring a gorgeous illustration of her on their landing page. The colourful illustration made by Indian artist Bhumika Mukherjee could be seen as part of the Google logo for the whole day. The illustration beautifully captured the late diva’s captivating eyes and showed her in a traditional dance pose with henna on her hands and gold bangles dangling from her wrist.

Sridevi tragically passed away on February 24, 2018, due to an accidental drowning in her Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel room in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She was 54 at the time. She is survived by her husband, producer Boney Kapoor and daughters Janhvi and Khushi.
