During their tour of historical sites in Lahore, a delegation from Iran has taken a keen interest in the Punjabi cinematic masterpiece The Legend of Maula Jatt. According to reports, The Iranian officials, led by Sayyed Izzat Ullah Zarghami, who holds the position of Federal Minister for Cultural Heritage, Museums, and Tourism, joined by Iranian Consul General Mehran Movahhedfar and DG Lahore Iranian Cultural Center Jafar Ronas, embarked on visits to significant landmarks including the Lahore Fort, Badshahi Mosque, and Mazar-e-Iqbal.
Following their cultural explorations, the delegation's fascination with the iconic Pakistani film, The Legend of Maula Jatt, became apparent. Expressing their enthusiasm for the movie, the delegates expressed a desire to dub the film into the Persian language, envisioning a theatrical release for Iranian audiences.
Facilitating this special cinematic encounter, a private screening was thoughtfully arranged by Yahya Saleem, the individual behind Universal Cinemas. The Iranian guests were captivated by the outstanding performances portrayed on screen, leading them to vocalize their wish that the film becomes a source of enjoyment for the people of Iran.
This gesture of cultural exchange and appreciation signifies the enduring power of art to transcend boundaries, fostering connections between nations and allowing stories to resonate across diverse audiences. The potential introduction of The Legend of Maula Jatt to Iranian theatres could mark a significant step in the cinematic collaboration between Iran and the subcontinent, further strengthening the cultural ties that bind these two regions.
This would not be the first feather in the cap of the Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, and Mahira Khan-starrer. Released on October 13 last year, the blockbuster had been labelled as the greatest Pakistani film to date. The producer, Ammara Hikmat, recently revealed that the film has surpassed over Rs400 crore worldwide. The producer shared a news report on her Instagram account that her magnum opus is still going strong, with massive box office earnings.
