Famous morning show host and former actor Nida Yasir recently appeared as a guest on the Hafiz Ahmed podcast in which she talked at length about her life and her journey to becoming an actor and television show host. She shared thoughts about the different stand-out moments from her long-running morning show Good Morning Pakistan, and the many lessons she has learned over the course of her illustrious career and domestic life.

On the topic of marriage, she shared the story of how she and director-producer Yasir Nawaz came to be married and what she believed to be the biggest reason behind short-lived marriages and people opting for divorce. She cited a lack of tolerance as one of the main reasons why people are unable to sustain their marriages.

“Bardasht khatam ho gayi hai. Logoon main awareness zyada ho gayi hai. Logoon ko apnay haqooq pata chal gaye hain so jab zyadati hoti hai woh uska hal nahi nikaltay (There is no tolerance. People are more aware now and they know their rights, so when an injustice takes place, they do not try to find a solution)”

Furthermore, she explained that the availability of one’s legal and God-given right to divorce should not mean that you part ways with your partner over a problem that can be solved through effort.

“Yeh thori hai kay cheezain aapko pata chal gayi hai, agar awareness aa gayi hai, aur haqooq hain sab kay, so yeh thori Allah Tallah nay kaha hai kay aap uski wajah sey alag ho jao (Just because you know these things and you’re aware of your rights and everyone else’s, that doesn’t mean God has said that you should part ways with your partner).”

Nida made a point to not comment on the merits or demerits of divorce or one’s access to the right of divorce. Rather, she indirectly highlighted the cases in which divorce is used as a way to end a relationship without first trying to address or resolve the issues plaguing it. She alluded to the sanctity of holy matrimony and talked about how marriage is a commitment in the eyes of God and, hence, should not be taken lightly. She was of the opinion that spouses should make multiple attempts to try and work on their marriage before calling it quits.

“Jab aap nay aik commitment ki hai aur khuda nay aapko iss nikkah main bandha hai tou aapko usko baar baar try dena parta hai (When you have made a commitment and God has tied you together in a marriage, then you have to try again and again to make it work)”

To really drive home this point, Nida used her own marriage as an example. She opened up about how she and her husband have arguments, even huge ones, and how that is normal for a marriage between two people. Nida and her husband, actor-producer, Yasir, have been married for a little over a decade now and they have three children together.
