Meesha Shafi needs no introduction. With a voice that transcends languages and time, she is more than just a singer. She's a melodious wonder who has blessed her fans and others alike, with timeless works of art. There is no doubt that she is considered a leader in music and culture, thanks to her journey from enthralling stages to trendsetting through magazine covers and eventually, social media.
On August 10, Shafi took to her Instagram story to extend her best wishes to Minal Khan and Ahsan Mohsin Ikram on the joyous announcement of their pregnancy. “Lovely image. Congratulations to the parents to be”, the singer wrote, sharing an image of Minal with her husband. Minal and her husband announced the news through Hello! Magazine, which claimed it marked “the first pregnancy cover reveal in Pakistan.”
With regards to this, Shafi highlighted an error in the announcement. She shed light on a historical note, clarifying that the idea behind pregnancy reveals through magazine covers isn't entirely new for Pakistan. She wrote, “caption states this to be the first pregnancy cover reveal in Pakistan. And that’s incorrect. I’m pretty sure that was mine in 2010”.
Drawing on her own experience, she then happily shared pictures of her shoot for Paperazzi magazine back in 2010 revealing her own pregnancy, proving that it was her who was the trailblazer of this concept. The pictures show a cover of the singer proudly showing off her pregnancy. She can be seen wearing a sleek black outfit with matching heels and bright red for the choice of her lip colour.
Shafi made a loud and clear style statement at a time when women were often discouraged from sharing their birthing journeys. Her dedication to the beautiful journey to motherhood is commendable.
For clarity’s sake, she also stated that she is not having another baby.
Shafi's latest melodious works include Saranjaam (2023), and Muaziz Saarif (2022).
