The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) CEO to appear with a report on water demand and supply to the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and Clifton.
A two-member bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi heard the petition.
The petitioner’s lawyer, Khawaja Shamsul Salam submitted that DHA and CBC have illegally increased the property and conservancy tax.
The court expressed anger at CBC and remarked that when not giving water, why do you charge money? Justice Abbasi remarked that there is a clear order of the court that those giving water charges will not pay the tanker amount.
The court expressed dissatisfaction with the response of the CBC counsel.
Justice Abbasi remarked that water is the basic need of the people.
The Clifton Cantonment Board’s counsel stated that the water board is not supplying water to us as per the agreement.
The contract is for 9mgd of water per day and the demand is 20mgd of water.
Justice Abbasi said in his remarks that it is your responsibility to provide water to every house.
The water board’s counsel argued that water shortage is the main reason, and it is not possible to end the shortage before the completion of K-IV project.
Justice Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi remarked that dams are overflowing.
The lawyer of the petitioner told the court that the cantonment is giving water from hydrants, so why not from the line?
