KARACHI:

The annual family picnic of the staff of a restaurant in Clifton ended in tragedy when the coaster they were travelling in rammed into a dumper truck coming from the opposite side.

The fatal incident unfolded on the Northern Bypass in the Gulshan-e-Maymar vicinity, resulting in the untimely demise of four individuals, including the operators of a dumper truck and a coaster vehicle.

Tragedy struck as these vehicles collided, leading to not only the loss of lives but also injuring 16 others, five of whom are now in critical condition. Preliminary reports from the authorities indicate that the accident was a consequence of excessive speed.

The coaster involved in the collision suffered complete destruction, whereas the dumper sustained partial damage.

Upon receiving notification of the incident, law enforcement promptly arrived at the scene, overseeing the transfer of the injured to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital via Edhi and Chhipa ambulances.

The identity of the dumper's driver has been confirmed as Sultan, son of Akbar, while the remaining three individuals are yet to be identified. The five individuals in critical condition were expeditiously relocated from Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to a private medical facility on Stadium Road.

The ill-fated coaster carried employees of a restaurant in Clifton, along with their families, en route from Clifton to a farm house in Gadap for their annual picnic.

Tragically, their journey was cut short when the coaster collided on the Northern Bypass, specifically between MD Cut and Abbas Cut. Law enforcement authorities caution that it is premature to definitively ascertain whether the coaster driver or the dumper driver caused the incident.
