ADSJ Humayun Dilawar, who presided over the Toshakhana case and sentenced former prime minister Imran Khan to three years in prison, has reportedly departed for London.
The judge is attending a judicial conference at the University of Hull from August 5 to 13.
According to sources, ADSJ Humayun Dilawar's participation in the event was added on August 4.
The chief justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) nominated a judge to represent the court at the judicial conference. The court's registrar sent a letter to Judge Humayun Dilawar, informing him of the opportunity to attend the training programme in London from August 5 to 13.
According to the letter, Judge Humayun Dilawar was nominated to attend the conference as a replacement for Judge Faizan Haider Gilani.
The sources said judges from various parts of the country have been nominated to take part in the judicial conference while the process of nominating judges and arranging visas for their participation in the judicial training had been ongoing for the past two months.
However, there were some changes in the names of the nominated judges due to visa-related issues, with some judges being added to the list as replacements.
Moreover, additional information regarding the judicial training at the University of Hull has also emerged with documents indicating that nominations for the training workshop at the university were initially submitted in May 2023.
On July 31, the university confirmed ADSJ Humayun Dilawar's participation.
According to the university documents, Humayun Dilawar's name was added as a replacement for Judge Faizan Haider Gilani, who was unavailable for the training workshop. When the nominations were initially sent, ADSJ Dilawar's name was included but later dropped in June, along with three other judges, due to issues with document processing.
The documents from the university stated while Judge Faizan Haider Gilani applied for a visa in June, his availability for the training programme was uncertain, and it would have not been appropriate to leave a vacant seat due to time constraints. Therefore, ADSJ Dilawar was selected as a replacement.
Based on the June 21 letter from the university, four judges from Islamabad were selected for the workshop, including Zubia Chaudhry, Kamran Basharat, and Shoaib Bilal.
