The police have arrested two suspects in a double murder case disturbing the town’s peace just days before Eid.
“Two suspects are being investigated in the double murder case,” said a police official on Tuesday adding that it is too early to comment on the motive behind the murder.
Unidentified armed men had gunned down a government official Saleem, and a man named Azfar at Ittihad Chowk on Monday, fueling tension in the town where Eid preparations had reached fever pitch.
They assailants fled after the crime, leaving the bodies in apool of blood. According to witnesses, Saleem and Azfar were seemed to be shopping for Eid as they were accompanied by two children as well. The children, who witnessed the shootings, kept crying out in fear for nearly 30 minutes before the police reached the site of murder.
“As soon as people heard firing, they abruptly closed their shops and left fearing a reaction,” said a vendor.
The deceased belonged to Napur, where dozens have lost their lives in sectarian violence. Police said that both the deceased had been shot in the head by assailants, who could have been trained target killers.
“One of them died on the spot while another breathed his last in the hospital,” said an official. Police immediately cordoned off the
area and started a vehicle search.
According to witnesses the markets, which were filled with Eid shoppers, were deserted within minutes.
