Actor Feroze Khan has been rallying for feminism publicly on social media as of late and even wore a hat for the cause but some fans find his “drama” hard to believe. The Khaani actor responded to a fan who called him out for supporting feminism while being a Muslim and asked them to “learn” about equality and Islam.
Khan posted a selfie wearing a hat that read ‘Feminist AF’ and implied forgiveness and moving on. “So am I! My sister Humaima Malick taught me to drop em weapons. I love her,” he wrote. The post got viral instantly with some fans lauding his “good intentions” while others called him out for having ‘double standards.’
One fan, however, accused him of being hypocritical for first promoting Islam and then feminism, saying the two do not go hand-in-hand. “Hypocrisy at its best. He always promotes Islam and its rules. And he’s now promoting feminism. But feminism and Islam don't go together. Because in Islam, men and women are not equal. Neither in marriage, adoption or inheritance. Nor in society. So Feroze, stop this drama,” read the comment.
Explaining that religion and feminism are inherently interlinked, Khan gave the example of how Islam has given higher ranks to both women and men. He replied, “How could it (Islam and Feminism) not be? Amma Fatima (SAW) is a woman we put our heads in any feet for her. That's feminism. This whole concept is taken wrong for the poor information we've been informed of. Learn and find.”
On the other hand, Khan hasn’t always been lauded for his support of feminism. Earlier this month, the Khaani actor hosted an Ask Me Anything session on Instagram where a fan asked him to share advice for girls aged 21-25 years old. “Would you like to give any advice to young girls like me, who are between 21 to 25 years old? We are facing depression nowadays thinking about our future such as what it will come to work and so on,” asked the fan.
“Obey your man, give them responsibility and sit back and enjoy grapes. I’d do that if I was a woman. Be a queen,” he wrote.
