Tuba Anwar, in a recent conversation with Fuchsia Magazine, alongside Junaid Niazi, shed light on the significance of marriage counselling and couple’s therapy. While the discussion initially revolved around their show Baby Baji, the topic naturally extended to the importance of seeking professional guidance in marriage.
Reflecting on their portrayal of a young couple in Baby Baji, Anwar highlighted that the series accurately depicts the challenges newlyweds face when their perspectives do not align. "The way our couple has been shown [in Baby Baji], it's depicted that when newlyweds are young, their perspectives often do not match, but they are still trying to figure it out," explained Anwar.
"Both characters are trying on their ends, 'Perhaps if we do this, the relationship will improve, or if we do this, things will be better.' Sometimes [Niazi's] character explains that my character should listen, not be impulsive, and compromise a bit," she continued. "This is an accurate depiction of where the first two years are marked with turmoil in their lives when they're young. Their mindset does not match, it's beyond their comprehension," the star explained further.
An essential aspect underscored by Anwar is the lack of readily available resources for young couples facing marital difficulties. In the drama, the characters do not seek marriage counselling or professional help, which reflects a common real-life scenario. Anwar elaborated that elders may be preoccupied with their own issues, and other family members might have their concerns, leaving young couples with no one to turn to for support and guidance.
Anwar stated, "And here, there is no such thing as marriage counselling, which is very important. We don't go to therapists; we don't talk to anyone. Elders are stuck in their own issues; sisters-in-law have their own issues. Who will you talk to? Who is going to come sit down with you and tell you that you're going through an issue?"
The actor passionately urged the importance of considering therapy and counselling as a valuable resource for couples navigating the complexities of marriage. She emphasised that seeking the assistance of therapists or professionals can significantly benefit relationships, especially during challenging times. Anwar pointed out that learning to maintain and understand a relationship is an art, and having access to expert guidance can play a vital role in ensuring its longevity and strength.
"I think, through this drama, I know we're not showing it here, but as a whole, we all should consult therapists as well in case something like this comes up. Young couples, especially. To stay in a relationship, in a marriage is also an art. To learn and understand it is vital," said Anwar.
Marriage counselling and couples therapy can provide a safe space for partners to express their feelings, resolve conflicts, and improve communication. It equips couples with valuable tools to navigate challenges effectively and fosters a deeper understanding of one another.
Anwar's remarks serve as a reminder to young couples that seeking professional help is not a sign of weakness but rather a proactive approach to nurturing a healthy and thriving relationship. Openly discussing challenges and seeking guidance from trained therapists can pave the way for happier, more fulfilling marriages.
