Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Raja Riaz has said that a meeting between him and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was expected around August 1, where they would deliberate on the names of the candidates for the interim PM before the general polls.
“My meeting with the premier is expected around August 1 where we will exchange names for the caretaker prime minister,” he said while talking to Independent Urdu.
Riaz maintained that “a meeting or two” would be held to decide whether they agree on a name.
The opposition leader said he and PM Shehbaz were to recommend three names each for the caretaker premier, noting that the matter would be referred to the election supervisor if they did not forge consensus on a name.
“The election commission will select a name from the six proposed by us, which is according to rules and regulations,” he said.
