PESHAWAR:

In response to the escalating armed conflict in Kurram district, the Interior Department of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has taken decisive action by forming a 30-member Jirga to restore peace and stability to the troubled region.

The clashes, which have lasted for the past five days, have claimed the lives of seven individuals, leaving 34 others injured.

The primary objective of the Jirga is to control the unpleasant situation and resolve the land dispute that has been at the center of the ongoing conflict. Additionally, a government committee has been dispatched to Kurram to initiate negotiations and establish a ceasefire between the conflicting parties. To maintain law and order, Section 144 has been imposed in the area.

The Interior Department of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has requested the assistance of the army and Frontier Corps (FC) to quell the violence and restore peace in Kurram. The involvement of security forces aims to prevent further casualties and stabilise the situation. In parallel efforts to promote peace, the Awami National Party (ANP) has also established a special Jirga, headed by Provincial Vice President Shahi Khan Sherani. This ANP-led Jirga consists of prominent figures including former MPA Nisar Mohmand, Maulana Khanzeb and Pir Haider Ali Shah, former MPA Gul Sahib Khan Khattak, Nisar Lala, and Ayaz Wazir.

ANP's Provincial President, Amil Wali Khan, has instructed the special Jirga to actively engage with the district organisation in Kurram and work towards fostering peace.
