Suspect claims killed victim in self-defense over armed robbery

KARACHI:

A young man was shot dead during a brawl in Landhi Rehri Goth within the limits of Sukhan police station. Police arrested a suspect and recovered a weapon from him.

The deceased, 22-year-old Jalal Shah, was killed under mysterious circumstances, said Sukhan police station SHO Adeel Shah. The suspect, Muhammad Atif, claims that he had killed Jalal Shah in self defence, the SHO said.

Atif told the police in his initial statement that Jalal had committed armed robbery at his home and he had recognised him. In the morning, Atif said, he confronted Jalal to his mother’s jewelry. There was exchanged of bitter words and Jalal pulled out a pistol, but, Atif claimed, “I snatched Jalal’s weapon and opened fire.”
