Gulshan SP says will use AI to develop the face of the suspect hiding in mask

Sindh police have filed a case against the suspect who sexually assaulted a woman in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area.

With the victim reluctant to come forward, police have registered the complaint on behalf of the state, leaving no room for compromise.

ASI Fayyaz filed FIR number 2023/591, under sections 509/354/294 of the Pakistan Penal Code, stating that on the night of July 3, while on duty, he watched a viral video on his mobile phone showing an attack on a woman.

The video was from Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 4. A person, riding a motorcycle with number plate, wearing a black T-shirt and white shorts, stopped outside a house. The unidentified person got off the motorcycle and removed his shorts. The culprit then chased a woman passing by and committed indecent acts against her modesty.

The culprit sexually harassed the woman, and after facing resistance from her, he fled wearing his trousers again. The culprit had worn a face mask to conceal his identity. After registering the case, the police have initiated an investigation and obtained statements from several individuals involved in the incident.

The police have started disseminating the image of the accused involved in the incident and conducting house-to-house searches. They have also initiated a geo-fencing investigation of the crime scene.

In this regard,  Gulshan-e-Iqbal Division SP Uzair Ahmed told The Express Tribune that the police have obtained around 100 more CCTV footages to trace the accused. The CCTV footages obtained are being scrutinised. He said that around 100 families are living in 20 houses in Gulistan-e-Johar Block 4 Mughal Hazara Goth. Police are releasing the photo of the suspect involved in the incident, and door-to-door physical searches are also being conducted. He said that the police have also geo-fenced the crime scene on Thursday night and the police are waiting for the data.

SP Uzair Ahmed said that a picture of the accused involved in the incident is very clear, but in this picture also the accused is wearing a mask. The image will be processed by artificial intelligence and sent for face recognition. The police suspect that the accused involved in the incident lives nearby within the radius of two to three kilometres from the incident site. He said that efforts are being made to arrest the accused.

The SP said that door-to-door searches are being conducted with the help of lady searchers. It is hoped that the police will be able to arrest the suspect soon.
