LAHORE:

Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Economy and Energy Bilal Azhar Kayani strongly criticised PTI leader Hammad Azhar, accusing him of spreading falsehood.

Responding to Hammad’s tweet, Kayani emphasised that Pakistan's economic growth rate had only been negative once since 1952, specifically in the year 2019-20 under the PTI's administration.

Highlighting the achievements of the previous government, Kayani noted that the PML-N had left a growth rate of 6.1 per cent in 2017-18. However, he lamented that the PTI had reduced the growth rate to a negative 0.94 per cent by 2019-20.
Undeterred by their attempts, Kayani proudly stated that this year, they had managed to prevent the growth rate from turning negative, effectively extinguishing the damage caused by the PTI's policies.

Kayani criticised the PTI for four years of persistent inflation that had burdened the nation. He accused the former ruling party of accumulating the highest debt in Pakistan's history, leaving behind substantial fiscal and trade deficits, and failing to honor commitments and agreements with the IMF, ultimately pushing the country towards default.

Kayani attributed the current economic stability to the efforts of the present government, highlighting their success in overcoming the challenges posed by Imran Khan and his team. With determination, he expressed his belief that the country would embark on a path of economic development and prosperity under their leadership.

Earlier, Azhar took to Twitter, asserting that under the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government, Pakistan's economic growth rate plummeted to a negative 6 percent, accompanied by a tripling of inflation during his tenure.

He also lamented the return of power outages and the collapse of industries, indicating the dire state of affairs.

He expressed a sense of despair, suggesting that the PDM has lost all hope except for resorting to undemocratic conspiracies and repressive measures.
According to him, their (PDM) actions have transformed them into a symbol of hatred among the people, further exacerbating the challenges they face.
