PESHAWAR:

Three children were killed and their parents sustained critical injuries in a gas cylinder blast on the outskirts of Peshawar on Saturday.

Rescue 1122 told The Express Tribune that on Dora Road a gas cylinder exploded inside a house as a result the roof of the room caved in, trapping five people under the debris.

“Rescue 1122 teams reached the site of the incident and started a rescue operation during which Shahzad and his wife were rescued in critically injured condition and shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH). The bodies of their three children identified as Zuneria, 8, Ahad, 4 and Jalil, 3, were also taken out of the debris,” said a Rescue 1122 official, adding that eight ambulances and three rescue vehicles took part in the operation along with a team of 72 rescuers.

The incident resulted in widespread panic among the local residents who accused the authorities of not keeping a check on the sale and purchase of sub-standard gas cylinders.
