The Sindh High Court (SHC) has adjourned the hearing until the first week of August on the petitions challenging the direct election of mayor, deputy mayor and union council chairmen and vice-chairmen, and the notification of Murtaza Wahab's election as mayor.
A two-member bench, comprising Justice Yusuf Ali Saeed and Justice Muhammad Abdul Rehman, also issued notices to the parties concerned on the petitions, including the one filed by Jamaat-e-Islami which was also hopeful of getting its candidate Naeemur Rehman elected as Karachi mayor.
Present before the court were Sindh Advocate General Hasan Akbar, Murtaza Wahab's lawyer Haider Waheed, Jamaat-e-Islami's counsels Taimur Mirza, Saifuddin and Usman Farooq, Tariq Mansoor advocates, and other lawyers. Wahab's lawyer stated that his client has already been elected as the mayor of Karachi, rendering the current petition unnecessary.
Advocate General Akbar requested more time for preparation, stating that all applications require time for a proper response. Taimur Mirza requested 10 minutes to complete his arguments.
