A youth was shot dead on Sheikhupura Road by a man allegedly infuriated over his advances towards with a university student from his locality.
A passer-by student was injured in the attack.
According to the police, 20-year-old Ahmed from Ghulam Muhammadabad had a friendship with the female student from Malikpur of a private university near Sheikhupora Road.
The woman had also invited Matiullah from her hometown to the campus, who admonished Ahmed over his relationship with her.
Following a brief altercation, Matiullah resorted to indiscriminate firing, injuring Ahmed and a passenger in a vehicle.
Urgent medical assistance was provided and the victims were transferred to the Allied Hospital, but Ahmed succumbed to his injuries. He had suffered gunshot wounds to his face, arm and shoulder. The passer-by woman’s condition was reported as stable.
Mansoorabad police took the body into custody and registered a murder case against Matiullah and Ayesha.
They said efforts were under way to apprehend the suspects.
Police investigations revealed that both the suspects nominated in the case were neighbours, while Ahmed had maintained contact with the woman by phone.
