With Eid-ul-Adha a fortnight away, the prices of sacrificial animals, particularly goats and sheep, have increased manifold.
Most makeshift sacrificial animals’ markets like Shahpur Kanjran, the largest one in Lahore, became operational on Friday, attracting a considerable number of potential buyers. However, most of the visitors were observed leaving without purchasing any animals. When asked, they cited the skyrocketing prices of sacrificial animals as the reason.
The MCL designated 10 sites for the establishment of makeshift cattle markets and sales points this year, dividing the city into seven zones for the purpose.
Traders and cattle breeders, while responding to a survey carried out by a media organisation, said that major contributors to rising prices were because of high transportation and feeding costs.
