In an exciting development for fans of both the real-life Royal Family and the fictionalised family portrayed throughout the hit Netflix series The Crown, season six will pay tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II with a unique portrayal of the monarch. According to recent reports, the final season will showcase four different versions of Queen Elizabeth, encapsulating various stages of her life and reign.

Created by Peter Morgan, The Crown enthralled audiences with its depiction of the British royal family and their journey throughout Queen Elizabeth II's reign. Over the course of five successful seasons on Netflix, different actors have stepped into the role to accurately depict the Queen at different periods in history.

Claire Foy depicted the young Queen in the show's initial two seasons, chronicling her early years on the throne. Olivia Colman succeeded Foy, portraying the monarch in seasons three and four, capturing her middle years. Imelda Staunton then took on the role for seasons five and six, showcasing the Queen's later years.

In addition to the returning stars, a fresh face will join the cast to portray a young Princess Elizabeth during World War II. The publication revealed that Viola Prettejohn has been cast as a young, pre-coronation version during the forthcoming final season.

A source close to the show shared with The Sun that, "Netflix are playing a clever hand with these four queens, bringing the story of Her Majesty to a sensational end after telling virtually all of her life story over 60 episodes." The source further explained, "It also indicates the respect and affection which the creators have for the late monarch, even though they might not feel the same way about the royals as an institution."

The idea to feature multiple depictions of the late monarch in the final season likely emerged soon after her passing in September of last year, according to the source. However, bringing the actors together was no small feat, considering their busy schedules and subsequent successful careers following their involvement with The Crown. Both Foy and Colman have embarked on successful careers, making their participation in the final season even more significant.

As of now, Netflix has not confirmed a premiere date for the final season of The Crown. However, based on previous release patterns, fans can anticipate its arrival in November, aligning with the customary launch window. Fans of the show reacted to the news and called the inclusion a “promising and fitting tribute” to the iconic monarch, bringing her remarkable life story to a sensational close.
