KARACHI:

The Karachi mayoral race has reached an intriguing phase after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) expressed its support for the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) candidate.

In a statement issued on Saturday, a PTI spokesperson declared that the party will extend full support to the candidate from JI.

He said that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has been abducting elected local body representatives through Sindh police.

The spokesman said that the PPP wished to hold the mayor elections immediately.

"The PTI has filed a court petition because elected representatives were abducted before they were sworn in. Mayoral elections should be conducted in a transparent process," he added.
