After Deepika Padukone's prominent presence at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in 2022, we had high hopes from Indian divas this year around. While Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, a Cannes constant, put on a sequined affair for her one-day appearance, her counterparts failed to leave a mark.
One of the stars many looked forward to was Sara Ali Khan. A Cannes debutant, Sara's looks became the talk of the town as the Kedarnath actor walked the red carpet. However, much to our disappointment, the Indian actor, 27, wore some terribly boring and forgettable ensembles for the looks she sported. Here's ranking all her five looks, best to worst.
1. Glamourous Rachel Gilbert number
Sara's last look of her three-day run at Cannes emerged as our favourite. The starlet donned a figure-hugging, halter-necked Rachel Gilbert's embellished number. She opted for soft makeup, shimmery lids and a messy updo. For jewellery, she chose a diamond bracelet and diamond studs. Gorgeous? Yes. Basic? Also, yes.
2. Pantsuit with embellished cape
This should have been a red carpet look! For a press engagement, Sara chose a pristine white pantsuit with a matching cape. Her hair was adorned in a high pony with a few strands let loose. Her makeup was stunning! Sara opted for a rose-pink lip and retro eyeliner, taking inspo from her grandmother, Sharmila Tagore's classic look from the 70s!
3. Black Moschino gown
This one had so much potential! Sara, for another engagement, wore a deep-cleavaged, strapless, heart-patterned Moschino gown and a matching bag. With her hair set in Hollywood-styled curls, a smokey eye and a nude lip, everything was a-okay. However, Sara's glam quotient still lacked through and through. With an outfit as basic as this, a more elaborate bag would have worked better!
4. Black and white Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla creation
We have a bone to pick over Sara's second red-carpet look. The actor's second Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla fusion creation was a miss. While the dress itself hung in all the right places, Sara's jewellery was just far too tacky to be liked. Beaded necklaces are so 2012; let them stay there! Her makeup, however, completely took over and somewhat saved the whole look. We are still not over the thick eyeliner.
5. Traditional Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla lehenga choli
No; nope! We will be honest. Sara's first look at Cannes was just not for us. The Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla lehenga choli screamed Indian wedding couture and Cannes is anything but. Her reasoning for choosing a traditional Indian lehenga choli seemed fair; she wanted to represent her country and her heritage - even if it came at the cost of donning a poorly-styled outfit.
