SRK starrer 'Don 3' in scripting stages, producer confirms
Producer Ritesh Sidhwani has confirmed that the third instalment of the action thriller Don, starring Shah Rukh Khan, is currently in the scripting stage under the direction of Farhan Akhtar. Sidhwani, who partners with Akhtar at production house Excel Entertainment, added that he is not privy to any plot details at the moment.
Whilst in conversation with PTI, Sidhwani said, "Till my partner (Farhan Akhtar) finishes writing it, we won’t do anything. Right now, he is in the phase of completing the script. Even all of us are eagerly waiting to see Don."
The Don franchise, consisting of Don and Don 2, has achieved significant success in the Indian film industry. These action thrillers starring Khan have garnered both critical acclaim and commercial success.
Don, released in 2006, marked the beginning of the franchise's journey. It was a remake of the 1978 film of the same name, which starred Amitabh Bachchan. Khan took on the iconic role of Don, a suave criminal mastermind. The film showcased thrilling action sequences, a gripping narrative, and memorable performances, propelling it to become a box office hit.
The success of Don led to the release of its highly anticipated sequel, Don 2: The King Is Back, in 2011. Continuing the story of the charismatic Don, the film delved deeper into his world of crime and deception. With its slick production values, captivating screenplay, and thrilling plot twists, Don 2 further solidified the franchise's popularity among audiences.
Both films in the Don series were praised for their stylish direction, power-packed performances, and engaging storytelling. Khan's portrayal of the enigmatic Don received widespread acclaim, showcasing his versatility as an actor. The franchise's success also showcased the collaborative brilliance of Akhtar and Sidhwani.
Sidhwani, known for producing movies such as Dil Chahta Hai, Rock On!, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, and Raees, is currently promoting Excel Entertainment's web series Dahaad, directed by Reema Kagti and Ruchika Oberoi.
The show, which had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in February, centres on the investigation of a series of gruesome murders in a small town in Rajasthan led by sub-inspector Anjali Bhaati (Sonakshi Sinha). Dahaad is streaming on Prime Video and is produced by Excel Media & Entertainment, along with Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti's Tiger Baby.
