Will do whatever my husband tells me: Ghana Ali talks about marriage, being labelled as homewrecker

Actor Ghana Ali is a strong believer in luck and destiny's role in shaping lives – both personally and professionally. In a recent interview, she defended her marriage, especially to people who accuse her of being a homewrecker while sharing her views on how to climb the career ladder in the entertainment industry.

Ghana made a guest appearance on Mahira's talk show where the host asked the Saraab actor about her views on gender equality in a marriage. “I am old school in this regard, I would want my husband to be superior to me in our relationship," she said adding that she owes it to him after what he has been through because of her.

"Whatever my husband has gone through because of me, I would want him to be superior for the rest of my life. He’s been through a lot because of me, the people he trusted were the ones who left him because he chose to marry me. I will do whatever he tells me to.”

Ghana, who married businessman Umair Gulzar in May 2021, sang her husband's praises. “He is an amazing father, husband and son. I’ve never seen a person like him," she said. However, when Ghana married Umair, he was already married to someone else, and dirty laundry was aired once Ghana and Umair's relationship became public news.

Opening up about the accusation, the actor revealed that her husband's first wife was fully aware of their relationship. “The woman knew everything, she was told before. But when it was announced, I don’t know why her reaction was this way. I was shocked at whatever had happened. I was told that she even tried suicide, I got emails, it was very toxic in the start, but I was prepared for it. I know it wasn’t easy for her as well,” she said. “My husband said that when a person knows that they’re not happy and the relationship isn’t working out then such a reaction doesn’t make sense.”

Moving to her professional life, the host asked whether merit holds any ground in the entertainment industry and if yes, then to what extent. She also asked about other factors that play their role in an actor's transition from struggle to success.

"No," she said immediately, denying that merit has no place in the showbiz business. "Your luck works wonders. It depends on which lobby you're a part of and which production house you click with. Zhalay, in an interview, said that it also matters how many followers you have and that's true to an extent too," she said.

However, she strongly believes that it is all in God's hands in the end. "If God wants to give it to you, you'll get it. We have so many examples of that. There's Wahaj Ali and Imran Ashraf. Look at where they are now," she said. To which, Mathira pointed out that they have only recently received the praise and recognition they deserved but have been working for a very long time.

Ghana recalled a time when Imran, during his struggling days, on an award show stage stated that his time would come. "Now look. His time has come," she exclaimed.
