In a recent virtual chat with his fans, Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor discussed the possibility of a sequel to the hit film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, reports Hindustan Times. The 2013 romantic drama, produced by Karan Johar, starred Ranbir alongside Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Kalki Koechlin. According to Ranbir, the film has the potential for a "good sequel."
The Sanju star revealed that director Ayan Mukerji had a "nice story" in mind for the sequel but got occupied with their project, Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva. He mentioned that the storyline could be set "10 years forward," exploring the lives of the characters Bunny, Naina, Avi, and Aditi. Ranbir portrayed the character Bunny, while Deepika played Naina, and Aditya and Kalki portrayed Avi and Aditi, respectively.
Although Ayan is currently dedicated to the ambitious Brahmastra franchise, Ranbir expressed optimism that a sequel to Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani could materialize in a few years. He emphasized the potential of exploring the characters' journeys and said it would be interesting to delve into their lives in the future.
"I think Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani would make a good sequel," stated Ranbir. "Ayan also had a very nice story, I remember, but then he went into this Brahmastra journey. But, never say never. He might make it after a couple of years. I think the story will be 10 years forward - Bunny, Naina, Avi and Aditi, where they are in their lives. I think it’ll be quite interesting and nice to explore those characters."
This is not the first time Ranbir has discussed the possibility of a sequel to the film. In 2018, he mentioned during an interview with Bollywood Hungama that he and Ayan had frequently discussed the idea. Despite the time-consuming nature of the Brahmastra project, Ranbir hinted that a window of opportunity might arise between the release of Brahmastra Part 1 and 2 to work on the sequel.
The narrative follows the life of Naina Talwar, an introverted medical student who wants more from life than high marks. During a hiking trip with her old classmates, Bunny and Avi, she develops feelings for Bunny but he wants to travel the world and not settle down. Eight years later, Bunny and Naina reconnect, but their different career aspirations prevent them from being together.
Currently, Ranbir was last seen in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, and he has upcoming projects including Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal alongside Rashmika Mandanna. He is also involved in the highly anticipated sequels, Brahmastra 2 and Brahmastra 3.
