Torture case: Gujrat DPO suspended

GUJRAT:

The Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, has suspended the DPO of Gujrat after some footage emerged in which some of the CIA men were shown torturing a suspect publicly.

The in charge of Gujrat CIA, along with other personnel, had also been suspended on the orders of the high-ups.

Suspect Ali Haider, a resident of Loran, who had been arrested on the charges of selling drugs, was allegedly tortured by police after forcing him to lie on a road.

The incident happened in Madina Syedan Chowk.

The chief minister had asked the RPO of Gujranwala to conduct an inquiry into the incident and furnish a report to him.

The Sadar Police Station had registered a case against the suspended CIA in charge, Amir Shehbaz, and constables Shamriz Iqbal, Ahmed Waqas and Imran.

The case was registered on the complaint of Javed Akhtar, father of the victim, Ali Haider.
