LAHORE:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has claimed that former minister Ali Amin Gandapur is being subjected to torture during his detention due to his loyalty towards the former ruling party.

In a statement issued on Friday, the former prime minister said that the tradition of East Pakistan was being repeated by allegedly humiliating Gandapur during his detention.

Imran said that the direct reason behind this behaviour was that Gandapur was one of the ideological figures of the party and dear to every worker. Therefore, “they are not doing anything except causing humiliation and increasing the distance between the nation and the state”, he added.

He said that everything that was done in East Pakistan was being repeated.

Gandapur had been transferred to Sindh on a two-day transit remand in the case filed in Shikarpur.

On Friday, a local court in Shikarpur approved 14-day judicial remand of Gandapur in a provocative speech case.

The former minister was produced before a special magistrate by police amid tight security. The court has directed the police to produce Mr Gandapur before it again on April 26.
