RAWALPINDI:

Rawalpindi police along with other law enforcement agencies have finalised a ‘foolproof’ security plan for Eidul Fitr and during the Eid holidays in the garrison city.

The security plan will be implemented from chand raat, which will remain in effect during Eid prayer gatherings and at tourist and entertainment places until April 25.

More than 3,300 police personnel will be deployed across the city. Elite police commandos will be deployed to ensure the security of Eid prayer gatherings to be held in Eidghas, mosques, open places and Imambargahs.

Ladies police personnel will also be deployed for the security of women worshippers.

On the eve of Eid, 400 police personnel will patrol Murree Road, Jhelum Road, Bank Road, Peshawar Road, Rawal Road, Syedpur Road and Airport Road to prevent one-wheeling, skating and other stunts on main roads.

Sources said that police including police elite commandos, dolphin force, bodyguard squads, sharpshooters, and traffic police personnel will be deployed for security. Motorcycle-mounted police personnel will also patrol their respective areas on chand raat and Eid day.

There will be only one way for entrance and exit. Police personnel will be deployed on both sides of the entrance. Three walk-through gates will be installed at large Eidgahs and worshipers will be allowed to enter the Eidgah through these walk-through gates.

Metal detectors and walk-through gates along with CCTV cameras would be used, while snipers would be deployed on rooftops to keep an eye on any suspicious persons or activity.

Strict action would be taken against persons involved in aerial firing, one-wheeling and hooliganism on Chand Raat and Eid.

Rescue 1122 officials said meetings have been organised with local mosque committees to ensure local volunteers are available in case of any emergency. A district control room will be working round the clock for the provision of emergency services. The management of hospitals has been taken on board regarding the preparations, Rescue 1122 officials said.

Eid congregations will be held at Eidgah Sharif, Liaquat Bagh, Eidgah Gwalmandi, Government Gordon College, Liaquat Bagh Sports Complex, Medical University, Shahbaz Sharif Park, Satellite Town and Government Degree College for Boys, Sixth Road and other places.

People will be allowed to enter the Eidgahs after a search. Walk-through gates will be installed at specific entrances depending on the security situation.
