Talks should ensure institutions’ impartiality: Haq

Sirajul Haq says problems can only be solved by elections

PESHAWAR:

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Sirajul Haq said on Tuesday his proposed talks among the political forces should ensure that judiciary, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the establishment remained neutral in the upcoming elections.

Addressing an Iftar-dinner in Taimargarh, Haq said that the country faced toxic political divisions amid constitutional and political crises, while the people suffer inflation and poverty.

“All these problems can only be solved by elections. We want general elections held simultaneously and the caretaker governments established at the Centre and in the provinces,” he said.

“Jamaat-e-Islami is calling on all the political parties for dialogue to achieve this goal,” he sain. "Discussions must ensure that the courts, the ECP and the establishment are impartial in the upcoming election, so that there is no chaos after the election,” he added.

The JI leader believed that there was no dearth of resources in the country, rather their unfair distribution was the real problem. “If usury-based economy and corruption are eliminated, the country will not need external loans,” he added.

“Governments are under the control of mafias, while oppressive feudal lords and corrupt capitalists rise to the assemblies. The people should raise their voice for their rights,” Haq told the gathering.

Haq further said that only Jamaat-e-Islami could establish a system of strict accountability. “The nation has seen the performance of other parties. Relying again on those who have been tried and tested before will not bring any improvement,” he said.
