Police seize laptops, cell phones and stake money

Rawalpindi police during a crackdown have arrested at least six suspects on charges of betting on cricket matches being played between Pakistan and New Zealand.

According to a spokesperson for the department, the police recovered cash, prize bonds, mobile phones, laptops and other items worth millions of rupees.

He said three suspects identified as Asad Hussain alias Asadi, Tauqeer alias Amir and Muhammad Ashraf were arrested by Ganjmundi police. Over Rs0.7 million and prize bonds worth Rs1.57 million were recovered from their possession, he said.

Police also recovered eight mobile phones, two laptops, an LCD, a tablet, a calculator, and two registers from the accused.

Meanwhile, Civil Lines police arrested three suspects named Khurram, Haroon, and Haris on charges of online gambling on the same matches and recovered three mobile phones, an LED, and a CPU from them.

The accused used to gamble with certain customers through various apps, he claimed.

Rawalpindi CPO Khalid Hamdani appreciated the performance of the police team for their efforts against online gambling and issued instructions to continue the crackdown against such elements.
