At least four firemen were killed and 13 other were injured on Thursday after a factory building collapsed during the cooling process following a blaze in New Karachi industrial area.
Fire brigade officials stated that Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) firefighters were engaged in the cooling process when the tragic incident took place, adding that the injured were taken out of the debris and sent to the hospital for immediate medical assistance.
The deceased firefighters were later identified as Sohail, Khalid Shahzad, Mohsin and Adnan.
It is pertinent to note that a fire broke out in three factories located in the industrial area a day earlier as a result of which goods worth millions were destroyed.

The blaze in two factories was extinguished while the fire in the third factory was controlled after 16 hours.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori also visited the scene and took notice of the firefighters who were killed and injured due to the collapse of the building.
He also contacted Administrator Karachi Saifur Rehman and directed that the injured should be provided medical assistance immediately.

“I think that a bigger incident than this could not have occurred on this holy night… I think they will be called martyrs and they will receive a high rank as they were on duty and busy with a task to save others’ lives,” Tessori added.
